BLT introduces BLT-Ti65 powder material for metal PBF and DED

Bright Laser Technologies, or BLT, the Chinese leader in metal 3D printing hardware and services, is introducing a breakthrough in metal AM powders with the new BLT-Ti65 material for metal LPBF and DED processes.

With the rapid advent of hypersonic aircraft, the demand for high-temperature-resistant, lightweight materials has gradually increased. The proportion of low-density and high-strength titanium alloys that meet performance requirements is rising quickly in aerospace. Oxidation or nitriding significantly affects the deterioration of the mechanical properties of titanium alloy in high-temperature air environments.

Therefore, the service temperature, depending on the application, is usually restricted to below 600 ℃. It is urgent to study titanium alloys that meet higher service temperature requirements. BLT’s TI65 with chemical composition Ti-5.9Al-4Sn-3.5Zr-0.3Mo-0.4Si-0.3Nb-2.0Ta-1.0W-0.05C is a multi-element near-α high-temperature titanium alloy that exhibits excellent strength, ductility, creep resistance, corrosion resistance, and thermal stability at 650°C, surpassing conventional titanium alloys.

Its primary applications can be found in high-pressure compressor blades, metal matrix composites, and high-temperature structures. More generally BLT indicates sectors such as aerospace, chemical equipment and marine engineering as key potential adoption segments.

The BLT-Ti 65 material for metal LPBF process features a particle size range of 15-53μm. Post-heat treatment, parts exhibit impressive properties at 650°C with yield strength of 483-503 MPa, tensile strength of 604-624 MPa and elongation of 16.5%-26.5%. The BLT-Ti 65 for DED processed has a particle size range of 75-180μm. Post-heat treatment parts also exhibit impressive properties at 650°C, with yield strength of 478-538 MPa, tensile strength of 588-648 MPa and elongation of 22%-32%.

According to existing research on similar Ti65 alloys for metal LDED, adding different micro-alloying elements (such as Si, Zr, Sn, Mo, and W) may improve its high-temperature oxidation resistance.
