BIWI SA acquires 9T Labs assets, rebrands composite AM technology as Neocarb

BIWI SA, a Glovelier-based Swiss manufacturer specializing in elastomers and composites, has acquired the assets of 9T Labs AG, the Zurich startup that developed a fiber-reinforced composite additive manufacturing platform before entering bankruptcy in late 2025. The acquired technology has been rebranded as Neocarb and presented publicly for the first time at Watches and Wonders 2026.

9T Labs had raised approximately $21.5 million in funding before bankruptcy proceedings were formally opened by the District Court of Zurich on November 3, 2025. The acquisition includes 40 machines from the Zurich company.

Starting up Swiss production

Founded in 1981 in Glovelier, BIWI SA serves over 300 Swiss and international luxury brands across watchmaking, jewelry, medical, and military sectors, with all products manufactured in Switzerland. The company had been working with 9T Labs technology prior to the acquisition, and the Neocarb branding reflects its integration into BIWI’s own production identity.

The Neocarb process produces parts with up to 60% continuous carbon fiber content with precise fiber orientation, yielding components said to be twice as strong and up to 70% lighter than titanium. Target applications include watchmaking, aerospace, mobility, and medical devices.

Pascal Bourquard Jr., CEO of BIWI, addressed the startup’s failure directly: “[9T] did not fail because of a defective technology but because it was ahead of a still immature market. She [the company] just needed the right arms to carry her.”

A new center for Neocarb

BIWI plans to open a new technology center in Glovelier as early as 2027, to be located across from its existing site. The investment is described as “several million francs.” Rfj The center will house the 40 acquired machines and serve as the production base for Neocarb components across BIWI’s target sectors.

Bourquard Jr. has stated the company’s ambition plainly: to become “the most advanced and recognized composite manufacturer in the world.”
