# Beehive Industries acquires two Cincinnati machine shops to scale Frenzy engine production

[Beehive Industries](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/beehive3d/) has acquired the assets of two Greater Cincinnati machine shops, Able Tool Corporation and its subsidiary Planet Products Corporation, as the US propulsion manufacturer expands its precision aerospace machining capacity for [its 3D printed jet engines](https://www.voxelmatters.com/beehive-industries-launches-new-3d-printed-rampart-engine-the-force-multiplier/).

[The purchase coincided with the transition of Beehive's Frenzy engine to full-rate production](https://www.voxelmatters.com/beehive-industries-clears-path-to-flight-testing-for-frenzy-engine/). The two operations bring more than 120 years of combined machining experience and production-ready capability, the company reported.

## Building toward high-rate output

Over the past year, Beehive has validated its Frenzy 8 engine through ground and high-altitude testing. The program later drew a [$29.7 million US Air Force contract](https://www.voxelmatters.com/beehive-industries-secures-29-7m-us-air-force-contract-for-frenzy-engine-family/) aimed at speeding up the engine's path to the field.

[Earlier in June, the company committed to 30 EOS metal printers in what it described as the single-largest publicly disclosed purchase of EOS systems](https://www.voxelmatters.com/beehive-industries-places-50m-eos-order-to-scale-3d-printed-drone-engine-production/), an investment it stated more than doubled its metal additive manufacturing capacity.

Beehive has also set out an operating model with two Centers of Excellence. A production machining center in Greater Cincinnati, Ohio, will anchor high-volume machining, while a production additive manufacturing center in Knoxville, Tennessee, is set to handle metal printing across multiple methods and post-processing. The company stated the combined investments were building toward an output of more than 8,000 engines per year.

“This is a move for scale,” said Darius Ehteshami, Chief Operations and Finance Officer at Beehive Industries. “Frenzy is entering full-rate production, and our customers need engines now. This acquisition gives us immediate precision machining capability, proven talent, and the operational experience to scale with confidence, at the speed the modern warfighter demands.”

## Decades of machining experience

Able Tool, founded in 1984 by Dan and Jan Hayes, brings an aerospace machining operation to the table, while Planet Products carries a history dating back to 1947.

Beehive confirmed its plans to keep growing its workforce in machining, additive manufacturing, and engineering at both sites.
