AM service provider BEAMIT now NADCAP accredited
BEAMIT, an Italy-based industrial additive manufacturing service provider, has marked another milestone in its growth: it has received NADCAP (National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program) accreditation for Heat Treating processes. The accreditation will enable BEAMIT to take its services to the next level, meeting the needs of high-end ASD customers,
The NADCAP accreditation for Heat Treating covers the following areas: heat treating of aluminum alloys, nickel, cobalt alloys, stainless steel and titanium alloys; materials and testing laboratories, including mechanical testing, metallography and micro indentation hardness; and hardness, conductivity and pyrometry testing.
The newly granted accreditation marks a significant step forward for the Italian 3D printing service provider, which has grown considerably in recent months. Since the start of 2020, BEAMIT has made a number of announcements, including acquiring a stake in AM post-processing specialist PRES-X, purchasing 15 additional SLM Solutions’ machines and partnering with coating expert Praxair to offer an integrated AM aerospace solution and composites company Bercella.
The company also announced in January 2020 that it was expanding its services abroad, with the opening of a new commercial agency in Japan. The agency, which will focus on the energy, motorsport, aviation, space and defense sectors, is supported by Mr. Eiji Akita, the former Senior Chief Engineer at Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems.
At its primary facility in Fornovo di Taro, BEAMIT produces parts for customers using a range of metal and polymer AM systems, including Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), Electron Beam Melting (EBM) and Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) systems. The company is notably active in the development of new additive manufacturing materials, through partnerships with Renishaw, Elementum 3D and Sandvik, which owns a 30% stake in the service bureau. At Formnext 2019, Sandvik and BEAMIT introduced new nickel-based superalloys and titanium powders for additive manufacturing.
