Bambu Lab says goodbye to the P1P model

After three years, Bambu Lab is saying farewell to one of its most popular 3D printers, the P1P. Extremely affordable yet highly efficient, this printer became, on the one hand, the backbone of many print farms and, on the other, a popular choice among modders.

For years, the 3D printing market was mainly associated with Europe and North America, where the first widely adopted designs emerged and maker communities developed. Recently, however, a clear shift has taken place, with Chinese manufacturers playing a major role.

Thanks to rapid development cycles, strong engineering, and a focus on cost optimization, they began offering devices of comparable or even better quality at significantly lower prices. This combination of speed, technological capability, and competitive pricing allowed them to substantially reshape the global market.

One company that symbolizes this shift is Bambu Lab. Since entering the market in 2022, the company has had a noticeable impact on the entire industry, focusing on high performance, automation, and accessibility for less experienced users. Bambu Lab printers demonstrated that advanced technology can be available not only to specialists but also to everyday users and small businesses.

A breakthrough moment came with the X1 series, which proved that Bambu Lab’s solutions had mass-market potential. Based on this, the P1P concept was created, a more affordable printer that retained the key technological features of its more expensive counterpart. To reduce the price, less essential elements for many users were removed, such as advanced displays or additional lighting. What mattered most was preserved: print speed, consistency, and reliability.

The P1P quickly became one of the most popular 3D printers on the market. It found its way to both hobbyists and companies, where entire “farms” of these machines often operated together. Its pricing was highly competitive compared to earlier designs available on the market.

In July 2023, the P1S model was introduced as an evolution of the P1P, featuring a factory-enclosed build chamber and improvements for more demanding materials. This was a logical progression for numerous users. Over time, more and more customers chose the P1S or newer models such as the P2S.

Bambu Lab decided to stop producing the P1P model as a result. This does not mean an immediate end to its market life. The manufacturer has announced software support until February 10, 2031, and spare parts will remain available through official sales channels.

The story of the P1P shows how quickly the 3D printing market is evolving and how significant Chinese manufacturers’ impact has become. It is also an example of a device that helped popularize 3D printing on a large scale and made it accessible to a much wider audience. Even if the P1P is leaving production, its role in developing the industry remains hard to overestimate.
