As 3D printing technologies begin to reach true industrialization and production readiness, many end users are still facing challenges, particularly related to process consistency and fragmentation between the various 3D printing workflow steps. Axtra3D, known for its Hybrid PhotoSynthesis Technology that merges the best of SLA and DLP, is tackling these challenges head on with a slew of new product releases that establish its high-speed photopolymerization solution as a complete, connected manufacturing ecosystem. The new products include Axtra.Wash, a washer and dryer for printed parts; Axtra.Cure, for UV curing and thermal post-treatments; and Axtra.Insight, a process validation and data intelligence system that offers real-time visibility and control across the entire 3D printing chain.

On the whole, these new products, in combination with Axtra3D’s Lumia X1 hardware solution, the Axtra.HS resin management system, and Volume intelligent build preparation software, enable end users across in industrial and dental sectors to achieve an integrated workflow that can deliver repeatable, production-ready results.

“Most current solutions treat printing, post-processing and validation as isolated stages rather than a single, intelligent workflow,” Axtra3D says. “This fragmentation forces customers to act as their own systems integrators rather than innovators focused on product performance.” Solving the problem of fragmentation can therefore allow manufacturers to take their production to another level in terms of efficiency, productivity and quality.

A fully connected, validated workflow

Axtra3D’s new and improved additive manufacturing solution now comprises five steps: its Volume print preparation software, Axtra.HS resin management system, Lumia X1 HPS 3D printer, Axtra.Wash and Axtra.Cure. All of these steps are underpinned by Axtra.Insight, which offers comprehensive process monitoring and reporting across the entire workflow.

The complete offering marks a shift for the company, which had previously offered its 3D printing system as a standalone product. Notably, customers will still be able to benefit from the technology’s open material nature, presently Axtra3D offers a range of validated resins, including products from 3D Systems, Henkel, Keystone, Forward Dimension and more.

“Whether using fully dialed Axtra solutions or open materials, customers can now operate with the confidence that every variable is not just tuned for faster prints, but smarter, fully connected manufacturing,” the company emphasizes. For the end user, this holistic hardware, materials and software offering paves the way for greater dependability, traceability and control.

Axtra3D’s solution, step by step

Now that we’ve covered the overall impact of Axtra3D’s integrated 3D printing workflow, let’s look at the various components that make it, with particular emphasis on its three newly launched solutions.

Build preparation with Volume

The first step in Axtra3D’s production workflow is its intelligent build preparation software Volume. The intuitive software is key not only for preparing 3D models for printing but also across the production process since it connects with the Lumia X1 and Axtra.Insight for closed-loop process validation.

Axtra3D recently upgraded the software to include a fully integrated HPS slicer that streamlines job preparation and eliminates the need for HPS Bridge. Other updates include a dedicated Axtra.Dental workflow, enhanced third-party integration and a SKIP support feature that uses DLP for printing supports for optimized speed. Users may also notice a “refreshed” user interface, which makes it easier to create and manage print profiles as well as monitor connected 3D printers.

Other key functions of Axtra3D’s software solution include automatic part orientation, intelligent support strategies, material-specific parameter libraries for exposure and cure levels, layer simulation and build time estimation.

Resin management with Axtra.HS

Axtra3D’s handling system, Axtra.HS, simplifies all tasks related to resin management, including removal and filtration of resin from the print tank and cleaning of Axtra.VAT resin tanks. The compact hardware is designed for desktop use and brings with it many benefits, including longer resin and vat lifespan thanks to improved maintenance; time and cost savings; and better process reliability and efficiency.

Lumia X1 3D printer

Axtra3D’s Lumia X1 3D printer, first launched in 2022, is now on version 25, an iteration which introduces a variety of upgrades and improvements. The system, which is based on Axtra3D’s HPS and TruLayer technologies, is known for its production of isotropic parts with micron-level accuracy and its broad compatibility with engineering and dental materials, including TrueSilX50.

Among the upgrades to the 3D printer that Axtra3D is unveiling at Formnext 2025 are TruLayer innovations like improved glass, linear sensors, encoder/gantry system and VAT/membrane designs. These upgrades result in superior part accuracy, process repeatability and throughput, including for high-viscosity materials. The Lumia X1 also now integrates upgraded HMI and platform systems that offer real-time monitoring, automated recalibration and improved user experience.

New Axtra.Wash station

The new Axtra.Wash Station

Among the new products to be unveiled by Axtra3D at Formnext 2025 is the Axtra.Wash post-processing station that offers automated washing and drying for 3D printed parts. Not only that, the washing hardware can also process printer platforms and Axtra.VATs, including the washing chamber itself.

The washing step is, of course, vital in any resin 3D printing process, as it removes uncured resin from the 3D print in preparation for final curing. Axtra.Wash now simplifies this step with its dual-wash system with optimized agitation and filtration. The hardware also integrates multiple tanks, enabling the processing of up to three different cleaning agents at a time, meaning that users could clean prints and empty resin vats simultaneously.

Moreover, users can benefit from a series of pre-configured wash profiles for different material profiles in Axtra Solutions (or choose their own custom settings via Axtra Open Access). The machine is compatible with all validated Axtra 3D resins. Other notable features of the Axtra.Wash are its telemetry-enabled operation as well as fully offline capability, and its closed-loop solvent management, which can reduce the environmental impact of the cleaning system.

New Axtra.Cure for post-curing

The new Axtra.Cure

With the Axtra.Cure system integrated into an end-to-end workflow, users can benefit from the dual functions of UV post-curing and thermal treatments. As Axtra3D specifies, the new post-processing system features a UV upper chamber with triple independent frequencies (355-385-405 nm) with adjustable power, time and temperature up to 60 °C. Compatible with all Axtra 3D materials, the Axtra.Cure also comes with material-specific cure profiles so users can ensure the optimal results for a given material.

The bottom thermal chamber, for its part, reaches up to 250 °C for thermal post-processing treatments, and facilitates the management of ramp-up, ramp-down and stationary cycles (profiles can be imported from Axtra Solutions or customized via Axtra Open Access). Users can operate the chambers independently or simultaneously and can rely on uniform light exposure across all geometries.

In the interest of improved process monitoring, the upper chamber integrates dual UV photosensors, which provide real-time certification of the curing process. While the entire system is integrated with Axtra.Wash and Axtra.Insight for enhanced traceability in the post-processing stage.

Process monitoring with new Axtra.Insight

Last but certainly not least is Axtra3D’s new process validation and data intelligence system Axtra.Insight. This program is the glue that keeps everything together, connecting every stage of the printing workflow, from file prep to post-curing. Not only that, Axtra.Insight provides essential monitoring and data derived from over 155 sensors mounted onto the various hardware systems. This means that users can access process data, analytics and reports for enhanced traceability and process transparency, as well as provide documentation for every part produced.

In the Lumia X1, Axtra.Insight tracks various metrics, including job information, printing process details, machine and TruLayer sensor status, HPS and DLP power temperature, and full print job history. Moreover, it gathers data for every printed layer, including TruLayer timing, Z-axis encoder readings, system temperatures and more. Other features include predictive maintenance, overall performance tracking, fleet management for multi-machine operations and data integration with MES and quality management systems.

Axtra.Workflow debuts at Formnext 2025

With its new products, Axtra3D is solving issues related to fragmentation in the workflow and delivering on a promise for production-ready 3D printing. As the company itself says, its mission is to “bridge the gaps in true additive production.” This mission is realized with the Axtra.Workflow—comprising all the aforementioned elements.

“With this unified ecosystem, Axtra3D enables manufacturers to validate, regulate and scale their entire additive process, unlocking true production capability in photopolymer 3D printing,” Axtra3D concludes.
