Australian Company AONIQ Launches the 888 PVC 3D Printer as First Product

AONIQ was formed to be a disruptive company to a disruptive industry. 3D printing promised to bring about a new age in manufacturing, one where we would be able to build customized parts, make improvements easily and not pay huge amounts of money to do so. AONIQ’s first product, the 888 PVC based 3D printer, seeks to deliver on that promise.

The following is a Q&A section with Michal Slavica on the advantages of PVC for 3D printing.

Q – Why would someone use PVC over say ASA?

A – PVC is better suited to 3d printing.  ABS and ASA shrink and curl when printed. PVC is producing the best prints we have seen from any material so far.

Q – Why is your minimum order ten rolls?

A – We don’t want the situation whereby someone with a cheap printer purchased at a supermarket buys PVC, doesn’t check their file, doesn’t have accurate temperature data, prints on an unsuitable surface and/or in an unsuitable environment and then blames PVC for lack of results.  PVC is the next stage in 3d printing and it is for serious use.  I would hate to see misinformation being put around.  This pricing option is aimed to deter those who aren’t serious.

Q – The price of PVC seems high?

A – The price is quite inexpensive compared to the price of material used in industrial 3d printers.

Also AONIQ is an R&D company and we develop and bring game changing products to market, first in this case, and as such we need to recoup investment.  Over time the price will reduce.

Q – How much testing and usage has been performed?

A  – We have successfully completed Thermal Stability testing.  The University of New South Wales and the Garvan Institute have used our PVC filament.

Q – How come you are the first to deliver PVC to the 3d printing community?

A – I think that it was the bringing together of expertise in materials development with 3d printing expertise.

Q – Who is the brains behind AONIQ PVC?

A – That is a closely guarded secret.  However, let me say that our 3d printing material industry expert has said that “AONIQ PVC outperforms any PVC currently in use”.

Q – AONIQ has now delivered two pretty significant developments in 3d printing.  What is next?

Q – What makes the 888 printer better for printing PVC?

A – The 888 is an industrial grade 3d printer, with a superior build surface and print head.  Coupled with PVC it will transform manufacturing for small businesses.

Q – Can other 3d printers use AONIQ PVC?

A – I expect so if the user has a decent and/or correctly dialled in machine, uses it in a controlled environment and has the required expertise to be already getting consistent success in 3d printing.  However, we have not gotten satisfactory results with any of the other machines we have tested.
