# ASTM International deepens America Makes  partnership

[ASTM International’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE)](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/astm/) has reached three key milestones in advancing the reliability and adoption of additive manufacturing, including: the leadership of the Industry Transition Team (ITT) under the America Makes Quality Test and Inspection Methods Expediency (QTIME) program; the launch of WATCHLIST - a coordinated initiative to accelerate in-process monitoring and control,  jointly funded by America Makes and NASA; and the elevation to Platinum membership in [America Makes, the nation's leading public-private partnership](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/america-makes/) for AM technology and education.

[Under QTIME](https://www.voxelmatters.com/astro-america-selected-to-lead-1-6-million-qtime-project/), funded by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Manufacturing Technology (OSD ManTech), ASTM International will lead the ITT to connect technology outcomes to real-world use across aerospace, defense, and other safety-related sectors.

The ITT includes The Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin, SAE International, Baker Hughes, and Wohlers Associates. QTIME focuses on developing rapid, cost-effective [non-destructive inspection (NDI) methods](https://www.voxelmatters.com/theta-technologies-rd1-tt-brings-innovations-in-additive-manufacturing-ndt/) for large and complex AM parts - both in-situ and ex-situ - across laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) and directed energy deposition (DED) technologies.

Building on that mission, ASTM AM CoE, with the support of NASA and America Makes, is launching  WATCHLIST (Workshop on Additive Techniques for Control and Health-monitoring Leveraging In-Situ Technologies). This AM initiative will: assess the current state of in-process monitoring (IPM) and in-process control (IPC); engage experts through literature reviews, interviews, surveys, and an in-person workshop; and deliver a strategic guide and roadmap with actionable recommendations.

Expected outcomes include stronger domestic supply chains through improved process control and faster qualification, targeted workforce upskilling, and alignment with OSD priorities to enable scalable, production-grade AM.

Finally, ASTM’s new Platinum membership in America Makes underscores its continued commitment to national collaboration and technology transition. Joining a select group of top-tier members, [ASTM will help shape cross-industry roadmaps](https://www.voxelmatters.com/plastometrex-develops-astm-standard-for-pip-testing/), accelerate standards-based qualification pathways, and amplify outcomes that benefit the broader manufacturing ecosystem.
