ASTM International to host 2nd Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence Workshop
The workshop will be hosted at CETIM in Senlis, France on September 16, 2019
Standards organization ASTM International is preparing to host its second Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence Workshop next month, which will consist of a one-day event addressing the additive manufacturing industry and value chain. The workshop will be held on September 16, 2019 at CETIM in Senlis, France, just outside of Paris.
ASTM International’s first workshop was hosted this past March in Auburn, Alabama and brought together 250 participants from 13 countries for a series of 12 interactive sessions. Following the success of this first event, ASTM International became committed to hosting more workshops centered on the additive industry.
The upcoming workshop—co-chaired by Dr. Nima Shamsaei from Auburn University, Dr. Mohsen Seifi from ASTM International and Dr.-Ing. Christian Seidel from Fraunhofer—aims to offer participants a holistic understanding of the AM industry and its value chain through targeted discussions.
In line with ASTM International’s own mandate, the workshop will place a special focus on the benefits of standardized additive manufacturing practices. That is, participants will be able to gain valuable insights into the world of AM qualifications and certifications through ASTM’s own expertise.
“This is a unique opportunity to learn from world class experts coming from both sides of the Atlantic,” said Dr. Seidel of the upcoming event. “Attendees will learn about the latest global standardization efforts, new technology developments and much more.”
The one-day event will address a series of trending topics in the additive industry, including AM feedstock, design, processing, post-processing, nondestructive inspection, qualification, safety and certification. The workshop will also reveal how ASTM International’s new AM Center of Excellence is combining R&D and targeted standards development to fill gaps in the industry’s standardization and workforce development.
ASTM International is inviting members of the industry, academia, research and government to participate in the upcoming workshop, which will—like the first edition—consist of 12 interactive sessions. Attendees will ultimately receive a Verification of Completion, marking a step towards building a longer-term comprehensive Training Certificate. The workshop is also part of the new AM CoE Education & Workforce Development Program (E&WD), which provides training to members of the AM sector.
The second Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence Workshop brings on existing supporters America Makes, Innovate UK, CECIMO and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as well as new backers EASA and the Fraunhofer Institute. Interested parties can now register for the event and can benefit from discounted rates until September 1.
