Art Filament by Graft Milk is now available on Kickstarter for the artist in you
New York startup creates line of PLAm 3D printing filament with special matte colors

New York City startup Graft Milk has launched the world’s first 3D printing filament designed specifically for the creative arts, known as Art Filament. Graft Milk’s first line of high-quality PLAm Art Filament has been specifically formulated to capture every detail of the most intricate designs and elevate printed artwork to fine art quality. Art Filament mimics natural materials and showcases quality craftsmanship through a nuanced palette of complementary colors, all with a delicate, prototype-ready matte finish.
After months of experimenting, testing and refining with PLA manufacturers, Graft Milk’s team of designers and color theorists curated their first line of custom matte PLAm filament, which is now available in a boutique palette of ten colors that seamlessly complement and synchronize across the spectrum.
“The idea for Art Filament came from our desire to elevate 3D printed design to a higher art form,” said Douglas Larsen, Graft Milk’s co-founder and design director. “There are so many incredible artists around the world printing amazing work, but we saw that the available materials fell short in terms of color and texture, as well as quality. We want to bring more of the theory and beauty of art and design into 3D printing. Our hope is that our first offering of Art Filament enables even more beautiful, refined printed artwork around the world.”
Graft Milk worked with a number of manufacturers in China to create the custom matte finish. Now more filaments and more materials are on the way, moving towards filament for fashion products, including more stretchy materials, and materials that can be printed onto clothes. Not just rubberized materials but something more prêt-à-porter.
“Color is everything we see — without color there is nothing”, Larse continued. “As humans, we navigate and negotiate our way in this world through the colors we come into contact with. We at Graft Milk believe the colors we create with should be the most enjoyable.”
