# ARMA is handling the next-generation of performance gloves

Gloves are a key piece of equipment for many athletes, yet even gloves worn by professional athletes are typically only available in standards sizes and are mass produced. Twins Xavior and Ilyaas Motley, former Division I football players, understand the issues that arise from wearing off-the-shelf gloves—like slipping, tearing and imperfect fit—and have decided to do something about it. Together, the brothers have founded ARMA, a tech-driven brand that is developing customized, 3D printed performance gloves that can be worn by athletes, gamers, artists, tradespeople and more.

The startup's gloves are still in development, so we can't report on the final product yet, but the venture is an interesting one. To date, we know that ARMA's product offering starts with a 3D scanning app, which customers can download to scan their hands. The scan data will then be shared from the ARMA App to the company's facility, where it will be translated into a 3D model. From there, a sort of exo-structure for the glove is 3D printed using Rapid Liquid Print (RLP) technology, a gravity-free printing technique originally developed MIT’s self-assembly lab (it has since spun-out as [Rapid Liquid Print](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/rlp-rapid-liquid-printing/)).

In a recent update on [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/posts/ilyaas-motley-armadillogloves_gloves-are-outdated-we-still-use-them-across-ugcPost-7336845216252841984-PSVv/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios&rcm=ACoAAADFBJkBkEq56cfEvDZQHQmbOPrJ3rHSb7w), ARMA shared a look at a glove prototype made using RLP, which features a net-like structure that hugs the wearer's hand as well as reinforced caps between the fingers and at the finger tips. This exo-structure is likely made from a platinum-cured RTV silicone using the RLP process, which itself uses a fine syringe to extrude material into a vat of gel. This approach allows for non-planar, support-free printing and offers benefits like faster printing rates, smoother finishes and virtually no post-processing.

According to ARMA's founders, this exo-structure is the base of the glove, which will then be covered in silicone. The aim, ultimately, is to create high-performance gloves that feel like a second skin to those wearing them. The final gloves will feature smart technology through the integration of biometrics, sensors and live data tracking. The 3D printed wearables will also have the option of being synced with an AI coach to "optimize your performance on-demand". Adding yet another layer of customization, clients can personalize the gloves with team colors and designs.

"Using 3D scanning, advanced materials and design, we create custom-fitted gloves specific to each individual," ARMA states. "Whether for sports, gaming, or industrial use—ARMA gloves improves performance, protection and comfort like never before." ARMA's 3D printed gloves are still in development, but the startup is taking pre-orders to help fund the final stages of development. Interested investors won't have to wait that long to see their custom products, however, as ARMA's founders say the pre-orders are scheduled to ship in spring of 2026.

The RLP technology enabling this cutting-edge application has also been used for other consumer applications. Last year, for instance, design house Coperni leveraged the technology to create a 3D printed handbag, the [Ariel Swipe Bag](https://www.voxelmatters.com/coperni-and-disney-unveil-gravity-free-3d-printed-purse/), as part of its mermaid-inspired collection in partnership with Disney. Beyond the consumer market, RLP's gravity-defying printing process also has applications in the automotive, medical and industrial markets.
