# AML3D delivers two ARCEMY X printers to Newport News Shipbuilding

In October 2025, Australian AM company [AML3D](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/aml3d/) received [an order from Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS)](https://www.voxelmatters.com/aml3d-receives-aud-4-5-million-order-from-hii/) worth upwards of $3 million (AU$4.5M) for two custom ARCEMY X metal 3D printers. Now, AML3D has delivered these two systems to NSS, which is a division of HII, the leading American military shipbuilder. The additive manufacturing hardware company is also in the process of preparing to fulfill [a second—even larger—order](https://www.voxelmatters.com/aml3d-receives-7-million-arcemy-x-order-from-hiis-newport-news-shipbuilding/) from NSS for four additional custom ARCEMY X systems. These printers are expected to be delivered in early 2027 and will grow the shipbuilder's industrial AM capacity in a significant way.

AML3D's [ARCEMY X is a robotic wire additive manufacturing (WAM) system](https://www.voxelmatters.com/rethinking-metal-production-with-aml3d/) known for its large-scale capabilities as well as its ability to function in an open-air environment. The two custom ARCEMY X platforms delivered to Newport News Shipbuilding have been specially engineered for shipbuilding applications, with a 10,886kg positioner that unlocks a "heavy" build capacity. Also crucial for maritime and shipbuilding applications is the fact that AML3D's system is compatible with a variety of metal feedstocks, including aluminum, copper, stainless steel, nickel, and titanium alloys.

While specific applications have not been disclosed, AML3D says its systems are being used by NSS for a "variety of shipbuilding applications". Within the broader U.S. Navy Maritime Industrial Base (MIB), the two ARCEMY X 3D printers just delivered represent the second and third heavy capacity systems to be installed and the ninth and tenth ARCEMY systems overall. AML3D is also fulfilling production orderes for MIB partners. For instance, it is [manufacturing five replacement components](https://www.voxelmatters.com/aml3d-secures-1-8-million-contract-to-3d-print-replacement-parts-for-us-navy-submarines/) for in-service trials aboard US Navy submarines for BlueForge Alliance.

"The strong and growing demand we are seeing from the US MIB is a ringing endorsement of AML3D’s US scale up strategy," said AML3D CEO Sean Ebert. According to him, AML3D is doubling its production capacity at [its facility in Stow, Ohio](https://www.voxelmatters.com/aml3d-opens-us-technology-center-in-stow-ohio/) to meet growing demand from the sector. Specifically, the US Navy sent a letter of intent to AML3D in early 2026 about the need for up to 100 AM systems and 3,400 3D printed parts by 2030.

The Australia-based company is not only experiencing this growth on the American front. It is also seeing greater demand for its solutions in Europe and at home. As Ebert says: “It is also pleasing to see the same demand signals that underpinned AML3D’s strategic push into the US market are emerging in other globally significant defense markets, in particularly the UK where AML3D has already won UK defense contracts."

As part of this global expansion, AML3D is reportedly planning to establish a European Technology and Manufacturing Hub, similar to its site in Stow. "Establishing a European hub will position AML3D with manufacturing capability to support the USA, UK and Australia, the three signatories to the trilateral AUKUS defense partnership," Ebert added. "We will also have the capacity to deliver on our strategic growth driver of accessing non-defense industrial manufacturing sectors across the US, Europe and Australia."
