# AML3D delivers first portable ARCEMY system to US Navy additive manufacturing centre

[AML3D](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/aml3d/) has completed delivery of its first portable ARCEMY small edition to the US Navy's Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) in Danville, Virginia, operated by Austal USA. The arrival of the unit takes Austal USA's total ARCEMY fleet at the facility to three, alongside two existing large-scale ARCEMY X systems. The system produces metal components to US military specifications using AML3D's patented Wire Additive Manufacturing (WAM) process, which combines robotic automation, welding science, materials engineering and proprietary software. The order value was confirmed by AML3D as AU$1.2 million ($870,000).

The containerized format was selected by Austal USA for its redeployment speed. Field service reinstallation takes just one to two days, compared to two to three weeks for a fixed system.

The success of this first portable, containerized system demonstrates how AML3D can flex its technology to meet multiple US military and industrial manufacturing use cases,” stated AML3D Chief Executive Officer Sean Ebert.

“The addition of the portable ARCEMY brings Austal USA's fleet of customized ARCEMY systems to three at the US Navy's Danville Center of Excellence. And we still are only just beginning to access the huge opportunity to support the US Navy's Maritime Industrial Base outlined in the Letter of Intent we received from the US Navy, which indicated a need for up to 100 additive manufacturing systems and 3,400 additively manufactured parts by 2030.”

## Forward deployment and naval supply chain

Austal USA Vice President Don Hairston added: “At Austal USA, our growing relationship with AML3D reflects a shared vision to redefine what's possible in advanced manufacturing. The introduction of a containerized, fully deployable additive manufacturing system is a game-changer — it not only increases our capability at the US Navy AM CoE, but it also allows us to demonstrate production directly at the point of need.

“Together, we're not just enhancing supply chains — we're transforming them, delivering next-generation capability exactly where and when it matters most.”

Beyond the Danville facility, AML3D stated the portable system’s form factor was expected to demonstrate applicability for forward deployment across multiple branches of the US military, supporting point-of-need part production with reduced lead times.

[AML3D recently reported total orders for the financial year of $20m](https://www.voxelmatters.com/aml3d-reports-20-million-in-ytd-orders-as-us-defence-contracts-drive-quarterly-growth/), with $12.5m in new orders secured during the third quarter alone.
