AMFG presents new automation software tools at Formnext

The UK-based company unveils Post-Processing Scheduling and QA management solutions, demos Digital Part Identification

AMFG, a UK-based specialist in automation software for additive manufacturing, is unveiling its new Post-Processing Scheduling and digital QA management solutions for its AM workflow software at Formnext this week. The new solutions will enable users to further automate post-production planning for 3D printed components.

Post-Processing Scheduling

The Post-Processing Scheduling solution introduced by AMFG will give users the ability to better plan and allocate resources needed for post-processing steps. That is, once a print is complete, its digital file is moved to the software’s Post-Processing page, where specific actions can be allocated for a given job. Certain jobs can also be prioritized and finished projects can be marked as completed. To help users keep track of all their 3D prints and post-process projects, the software logs the date and time of all part status updates into the central system.

“The range of post-processing actions required after production can vary enormously according to technology, material used and other factors,” explained AMFG CEO Keyvan Karimi. “Our Post-Processing Scheduling solution simplifies this process by allowing companies to optimize their resources, and provides the right sequence necessary to ensure that parts are finished to the correct specifications.”

QA Management

The Quality Assurance (QA) management tool, for its part, is being developed by AMFG to complement its automation software for post-processing. The software tool, now in its beta version, aims to provide users with the ability to import part documentation, such as reports, data sheets and 3D images so that they can compare the data with specifications from the actual 3D printed part.

The software also logs the data history of each printed part, so that users can easily access the specifications without exiting the AMFG platform. The company adds that users can see a given part in full detail thanks to the platform’s 3D viewer and its connectivity to scanning systems and sensors.

“We’re committed to ensuring continuous production for AM,” added Karimi. “Our robust production management solutions, in addition to our latest offerings for post-production management, ensure that there is a fluid flow across the production process. We’re currently working on developing ways to enrich this even further by leveraging our machine learning technology, for example to investigate the root causes of any build failures and provide corrective actions.”

Digital Part Identification

AMFG will also be demonstrating its new Digital Part Identification tool at Formnext this week. The new software feature digitizes the part identification process post build and automatically identifies finished printed parts, making it easier for users to compare the final product to requirements and specifications.

The tool also enables users to communicate with planning teams, keeping members up to date on part status updates, and facilitates post-production planning, QA checks, logistics management and more. Another notable feature of the Digital Part Identification tool is that it allows users to track the success rate of parts and automatically returns failed prints to the software’s internal queue to be reproduced.

“Working closely with leading OEMs, we’ve identified a real need for a comprehensive post-production management solution, which we’re excited to be showcasing at Formnext,” said Karimi. “Our Digital  Part Identification tool is one way our platform enables manufacturers to ensure a fully seamless, continuous workflow from one stage of production to the next.”

“With all of this data available, it’s becoming increasingly important for companies to ensure full visibility across teams and facilities,” he added. “That’s why the Digital Part Identification tool comes with real-time status updates that are logged within the system. Essentially, we’re providing planning and production teams with the means to connect operational planning with what is happening directly on the production floor.”
