AMCM opens new large-format metal AM assembly site in Weilheim

AMCM, the custom metal 3D printing systems subsidiary of EOS GmbH, has opened a new production facility in Weilheim, Germany, built in collaboration with the Bauer Group to add capacity for assembling and commissioning its large-format additive manufacturing systems. The facility allows multiple AMCM M 450, AMCM M 4K, and AMCM M 8K systems, along with upcoming larger machines, to be assembled in parallel depending on the product mix.

The expansion responds to growing demand for large-format metal 3D printing systems, including several orders for the AMCM M 8K, one of the largest laser powder bed fusion systems for metallic materials, with a build volume of 800 x 800 x 1,200 mm and beyond, allowing components up to 1.6 meters tall to be produced in a single print. AMCM’s systems serve aerospace, energy, research, and high-performance manufacturing customers, producing rocket components, heat exchangers, power generation systems, and other complex metal parts that are difficult or impossible to make with conventional manufacturing.

“The new assembly facility in Weilheim is an important milestone in AMCM’s growth strategy. With additional capacity and a production environment designed for efficiency, we are creating the conditions to sustainably meet the growing demand for our additive manufacturing systems,” said Martin Bullemer, Managing Director at AMCM.

Located next to AMCM’s headquarters in Starnberg, the facility is equipped with a 10-metric-ton crane with a 25-meter span and an additional 5-metric-ton crane to handle assembly, logistics, and commissioning. The project was completed within two years of a letter of intent signed with the Bauer Group in July 2024, with commissioning taking place on schedule on August 1, 2026. The collaboration grew out of a long-standing business relationship between the two companies, which intend to continue the partnership over the long term.
