Awesome 3D printed Iron Giant shows just how far 3D technologies have come | Video
The Chaos Core Tech YouTube channel – that created the 3D printed Iron Giant – is run by Garrett, a full time programmer, who loves to make things in downtime. He makes 3D models and 3D print them out, then his wife, Chelsey, paints them and makes them look amazing. Thorough his video he shares his experience along with the files he creates.
As 3D printing and 3D modeling tools advance at breakneck speed, so does the quality of these creations. Garret is comfortable with Fusion 360 and Zbrush for modeling, while he uses Prusa and Moai systems for printing in both filament extrusion and stereolithography.
“I’d be happy just to entertain a few people every now and then, and hopefully, I can inspire someone to create something they’ve wanted to for a long time.”
Chaos Core Tech’s latest creation, which uses all of these technologies, is impressive and shows just how far 3D modeling tolls and 3D printers have come in terms of usability and capabilities. The Iron Giant and Hogarth are quite actual as they have a decently big part in Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster Ready Player One. Garret modeled the 3D printed Iron Giant in Fusion 360, posed him and split him up in there as well. Then he made all the files print ready in Simplify3D. He modeled Hogarth in ZBrush. Fillamentum was the filament sponsor for this project. After the parts were printed, Garret and his team assembled them using a ton of glue and 2 part epoxy. Garret’s wife Chelsey painted Hogarth using acrylic paints.
