AM Austria and the UAE to form strategic partnerships
As part of its ongoing internationalization strategy, the Austrian technology platform for additive manufacturing (AM-Austria) recently met with leading stakeholders from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to discuss cross-border collaborations.
As part of Dr. Johannes Homa’s (President of AM-Austria) business tour in late 2021, arranged by Network Development Hub GmbH (NDH), to meet with representatives from industry, technology, and research in Dubai, Dr. Homa discussed the possibilities of future collaborations between the two regions. During the tour, led by Naveed Syed (Founder and CEO of NDH) and its Advisor Dr. Saeed Al Dhaheri, Dr. Homa presented to several organizations to discuss potential collaborations with their top management that included Sharjah Research Technology Innovation Park, the Dubai Future Foundation, the University of Dubai, Khalifa University, Mubadala Aerospace, Digital Dubai Authority, SmartWorld and Expo2020.
The UAE is an ambitious pioneer in additive manufacturing. After H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE) announced a national 3D printing strategy, that included a roadmap in 2016, the UAE is now considered the leader in introducing additive manufacturing technologies in the region. The ambitious initiative aims to put the technologies at humanity’s service and develop UAE and Dubai as the leading center of 3D printing technology by 2030. The UAE focuses primarily on the three main sectors of construction, medical devices, and consumer end products.
Despite its small size, Austria is considered one of the most innovative countries in additive manufacturing. It has deep and extensive expertise that extends across the entire additive value chain and various additive technologies. International collaborations like this aim to initiate a fruitful exchange, strengthen the countries’ position, and further develop additive manufacturing technologies.
The technology platform AM Austria is a non-profit association that has been committed to promoting and supporting the Austrian additive manufacturing industry since 2018. The platform is supported by the Federal Ministry of the Republic of Austria for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK), and it pursues the goal of developing Austria into an innovative pioneer in the additive manufacturing field to raise this technology’s enormous potential for this location. With more than seventy members from industry, research and trade, the young initiative is one of Austria’s most active and largest technology platforms.
Both countries now aim to discuss specific strategies to start collaboration as quickly as possible as a next step.
