# Agnikul Cosmos fires single-piece Inconel rocket engine in Chennai test

[Agnikul Cosmos, a private Indian space transportation company](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/agnikul-cosmos/), has successfully test-fired [Agnite, a one-metre-long, semi cryogenic, fully 3D printed single-piece Inconel engine operated by electric motor driven pumps](https://www.voxelmatters.com/agnikul-cosmos-3d-prints-largest-swingle-piece-inconel-rocket-engine/). The test completed a full design-to-test cycle using Agnikul’s in-house LFAM facility in Chennai.

Agnite powers the booster stage of Agnikul's Agnibaan launch vehicle. The test demonstrated large-scale 3D printing of rocket engines at an unprecedented level, with the engine printed, depowdered, and post-processed entirely within the LFAM facility the company commissioned toward the end of last year. 

“Unlike traditional engines that take seven months to manufacture, Agnikul's engines can be fully 3D printed in just seven days. This dramatically reduces production complexity, turnaround time, and costs. The costs will be one-tenth of what they are now,” stated Moin SPM, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Agnikul Cosmos.

“We chose single-piece Inconel construction and electric pump architecture specifically to solve our customers' scheduling problems and enhance automation of engine manufacturing,” said Srinath Ravichandran, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer.

“Traditional engines take months to build because you're machining, welding, and assembling dozens of parts. Ours prints in a few days, which means we can respond to launch demand faster than the industry standard.”

Ravichandran added that the electric pump design also supported the company's reusability goals. “Electric pumps are simpler than gas generators, with fewer parts to refurbish between flights, which is critical for our reusability roadmap. These are not just technical choices but are the reasons why we can commit to low turnaround and actually deliver on it,” he said.

[The test followed Agnikul's firing of a cluster of three semi-cryogenic engines in synchronisation the previous month](https://www.voxelmatters.com/agnikul-successfully-fires-dual-3d-printed-rocket-engines/) — the first such test in India.

“This engine test validates that our propulsion systems are ready to operate at the scale required for multiple launches per quarter. Our manufacturing capabilities are enabling us to produce engines in line with customer demand, rather than limiting it. The company is reported to now be valued at over $500 million following a funding round that included participation from HDFC Bank, Advenza Global Limited, and Artha Select Fund, among others.
