# Agnikul Cosmos fires cluster of four 3D printed semi-cryogenic engines

[Agnikul Cosmos, a private Indian space transportation company founded by IIT Madras alumni](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/agnikul-cosmos/), has carried out what it claims is the first cluster firing of four semi-cryogenic rocket engines in India.

[All four engines were 3D printed as single pieces of hardware and designed and manufactured in-house at Agnikul's Rocket Factory 1 facility](https://www.voxelmatters.com/agnikul-cosmos-india-large-format-am-facility-aerospace/), and as with the company's previous propulsion systems, each engine was powered by electric motor-driven pumps.

The complexity of the test extended well beyond ignition. The firing required calibrating eight pumps and eight motors, alongside tuning eight independent speed control algorithms to operate together in synchronization across startup, steady-state operation, and shutdown.

“Humbled to share that we successfully test-fired four semi-cryogenic rocket engines simultaneously, as a cluster,” stated Srinath Ravichandran, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Agnikul Cosmos, in a LinkedIn post.

“This test involved calibrating eight pumps, eight motors and tuning eight speed control algorithms to work together in perfect sync to achieve uniform startup, steady state and shutdown performance across the entire system.

“Like the last time, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first time such a test has been performed in India with semi-cryogenic engines. We are extremely grateful to have the opportunity to be building world class, original space technology from India, for the world with the support of IIT Madras, ISRO (the Indian Space Research Organization) and IN-SPACe.”

## Building toward flight cadence

The test takes Agnikul another step closer to the launch cadence its commercial roadmap requires. The company has stated its manufacturing approach — printing engines in days rather than the months traditional fabrication demands — is intended to match production output to customer demand rather than constrain it. 

Electric pump architecture, which eliminates conventional turbopumps, also supports the company's reusability goals by reducing the number of components requiring refurbishment between flights.

The cluster firing follows a sequence of propulsion milestones achieved by Agnikul in recent months.

In March, [the company completed a full design-to-test cycle of its Agnite engine](https://www.voxelmatters.com/agnikul-cosmos-fires-single-piece-inconel-rocket-engine-in-chennai-test/) — a one-meter-long, single-piece Inconel semi-cryogenic engine — at its Chennai facility.
