Adidas & Stella McCartney present AlphaEdge 4D 3D printed sneaker for women
To follow up on the launch of its AlphaEdge 4D 3D printed sneakers last November, Adidas recently unveiled its first AlphaEdge 4D footwear model designed specifically for women. The shoes, which integrate Carbon’s 3D printed midsole, were designed in collaboration with major English fashion designer Stella McCartney.
This is not the first time the sportswear giant and fashion icon have worked together: Stella McCartney and Adidas have collaborated for 15 years. Their recent projects have focused on the creation of stylish and sustainable activewear for women. Throughout their long partnership, McCartney has infused her own vegan and eco-friendly philosophy into the products, using recycled materials and ocean plastic in their fabrication. The new AlphaEdge 4D sneakers for women continue this tradition: the shoes are completely free of animal products.
With the soon-to-be-released footwear, McCartney has put her own spin on the AlphaEdge 4D silhouette and colour palette. The two-tone sneaker has a sleek, black Primeknit upper, with a built-in sock feature that subtly bears the designer’s name. The mid-sole, 3D printed using Carbon’s digital light synthesis technology, does away with the signature green colour associated with the AlphaEdge 4D (seen below) and introduces a contrasting white colour.
Carbon’s proprietary Digital Light Synthesis 3D printing technology has enabled Adidas to explore new avenues in its footwear production. The collaboration, which began as a conceptual exploration, quickly evolved to the point where the German sportswear brand was able to put its lattice-structured 3D printed mid sole into mass production.
The Adidas x Stella McCartney AlphaEdge 4D sneakers for women have not yet been given an official release date, though Just Fresh Kicks reported that they are expected to come out this month. Like the previous AlphaEdge 4D models, the innovative shoes are expected to retail for around $300.
