Metal 3D printing company Additive Industries and AM quality assurance solutions provider Sigma Labs have successfully completed the certification process to make the MetalFAB1 system “PrintRite3D Ready”. Through the collaboration, the companies believe they are the first to integrate near real-time visualization of the build thermal history for a quad-laser metal 3D printer.

Both companies’ engineering teams have been working together for some time to equip the MetalFAB1 with Sigma Labs’ melt pool monitoring solution, which provides real-time multi-laser visualizations (up to four full field lasers). For the user, the integration of Sigma Labs PrintRite3D Quality Assurance and Monitoring system with Additive Industries’ MetalFAB1 system can translate to fewer post-processing costs, less material waste and quicker part qualification. Existing customers can buy PrintRite3D for their metal AM systems, and new customers can buy the two solutions together.

“Our engineering teams have truly accomplished a remarkable milestone in 3D metal printing by designing and building a high performance computer platform that processes sensor data and produces a near real time visualization for a quad laser printer,” stated Mark K. Ruport, CEO of Sigma Labs. “We are very pleased to be working with an industry leader such as Additive Industries to accelerate the industrialization of 3D metal printing. The MetalFAB1 is a remarkable printer and it’s a privilege to have it certified as PrintRite3D Ready.”

Mark Vales, CEO and CTO of Additive Industries, added: “The integration of the PrintRite3D Melt-Pool Monitoring solution in our MetalFAB1 is an important addition to our product portfolio. The PrintRite3D solution matches very well with our focus on quality and reproducibility, allowing our customers to benefit from reduced post-processing cost, and faster part qualification.”

Earlier this year, Sigma Labs obtained two U.S. patents for its PrintRite3D solution, expanding its intellectual property portfolio for a total of 11 issued patents. The company’s platform enables manufacturers to detect defects in the powder bed fusion process using melt pool analytics.
