# Additive is at the cutting edge at ceramitec 2026

While technical ceramics still only represent a slim tranche of the entire additive manufacturing materials market, ceramic AM is an undeniably critical subsegment that powers high-value and high-performance applications in industries like aerospace, electronics, medical, energy, automotive and more. At VoxelMatters, we have been diligently following the evolution of ceramic AM—having long ago recognized the technology’s game-changing capabilities—and are thus eager to attend and participate in [ceramitec 2026](https://ceramitec.com/en/), the world's leading trade fair for ceramics. 

To be held from March 24 to 26 in Munich, ceramitec 2026 will bring ceramics to the forefront, highlighting how the material group plays an indispensable role in today’s industries, offering unparalleled levels of strength, temperature and chemical resistance, dielectric properties and more. ceramitec takes a broad view of the ceramic market, welcoming over 13,000 participants from 84 countries to its bi-annual event. In its own words, the event “brings together the entire spectrum of industry and research” and invites participants and attendees to “discover the latest products, technologies and trends, make valuable connections, and help shape the future of the ceramics industry and its diverse application sectors.”  

The scope of the trade show therefore includes our particular area of interest, ceramic additive manufacturing. At the cutting-edge of ceramic manufacturing, additive manufacturing technologies are enabling end users to combine the benefits of technical ceramic materials with the design freedom and agility of additive manufacturing. 

## Industrial ceramic AM has arrived

AM specialists in technical ceramic production will be well represented at ceramitec 2026, using the event as a stage to showcase their innovative solutions and the applications they unlock. Among those exhibiting at the trade show is Lithoz, the pioneer of Lithography-based Ceramic Manufacturing (LCM), whose CeraFab 3D printers are used across the entire development and production cycle in industries like aerospace, dental and medical. 

A recent partnership illustrates Lithoz’s successful penetration into industrial aerospace production: aircraft equipment manufacturer [Safran installed three CeraFab S65 3D printers](https://www.voxelmatters.com/safran-installs-3-cerafab-s65-ceramic-printers-from-lithoz-to-produce-cores/) at a facility near Paris, where they will be used for manufacturing complex casting cores in series. These casting cores are printed from a technical ceramic material developed by the partners which, in combination with integrated cooling channels, creates casting cores that can withstand extremely high temperatures. 

“Ceramics are a highly fascinating material class: not easy to handle for additive manufacturing, but once you know how to control and scale the process, and add in complex designs, it opens up a whole new dimension of impressively efficient applications,” the company says. 

“For Lithoz, ceramitec has always been the undisputed global number one trade show when it comes to informing our audience about ceramic AM. It has always been the place for us where, together with potential users of 3D printed ceramics, we could focus on the essentials. As a consequence, we have already seen a great number of industrial use cases successfully evolve from our presence there. ceramitec should definitely be the next event for people already familiar with 3D printing but currently limited by the performance of metal parts.”

The company, whose SLA 3D printers are used for aerospace, biomedical and industrial applications among others, is playing a key role in the industrialization of ceramic AM, not only by providing reliable hardware solutions and materials, but also through the introduction of software tools that increase automation and streamline process optimization.

## Advanced ceramic development and production

Ceramic additive manufacturing technologies present an alternative not only to more traditional manufacturing methods for technical ceramics like casting, but also to metal and polymer additive manufacturing. That is, the intersection of technical ceramics and AM enables end users to exploit both the design freedom afforded by 3D printing and the desirable properties of technical ceramics, which can outperform engineering-grade plastics and metals. Additionally, ceramic AM enables faster development times for high-performance parts and can reduce reliance on costly conventional tooling.

For example, Prodways’ CERAM PRO solutions have transformed how aerospace company [Honeywell manufactures turbine blades](https://www.voxelmatters.com/honeywell-uses-ceramic-3d-printing-from-prodways-for-its-jet-engines/). With ceramic AM in-house at its facility in Arizona, Honeywell recently 3D printed ceramic molds that brought down development times for turbine blades from 1-2 years to just two months. 

“At ceramitec 2026, we will showcase our CERAM PRO 365 3D printer, whose high-resolution, LED power-efficient, modular top-down build platform offers fast production, open parameter availability and unmatched flexibility, making it ideal for advanced ceramics manufacturing in aerospace, investment casting, semiconductors and R&D markets,” 3DCeram says. “At ceramitec, we look forward to demonstrating how CERAM PRO 365 empowers engineers to prototype faster, optimize complex geometries and scale advanced ceramic production, shaping the future of the industry.”

Prodways will be exhibiting for the first time in cooperation with its partner Tethon 3D, a leader in ceramic materials for additive manufacturing. At the trade show, the companies will be highlighting a selection of materials, including Silica Sicast 1200, a slurry engineered for ceramic cores and molds for industrial investment casting; and Alumina A100 and A110, high-purity aluminum oxides that have applications in power electronics, semi-conductors and more.

## Repositioning ceramics

Additive manufacturing’s growing role in the broader ceramics market—along with advancements in technical ceramic materials and powder metallurgy—is facilitating a shift in the broader market and a shift for ceramitec itself. As exhibition director Maritta Lepp says, “The focus is on ceramics as the material of the future.” Formally, ceramitec is repositioning itself through a new brand image and campaign, which emphasizes the “innovative power, versatility and relevance of ceramics as a forward-looking material.”

This repositioning can also be seen elsewhere, as established companies working in more conventional technology fields, like photographic printing, build bridges into the digital production of technical ceramics. This is the case at Durst Group, which founded D3-AM GmbH, a ceramic AM company specializing in Micro Particle Jetting (MPJ) technology. D3’s MPJ process, which leverages inkjet expertise from its parent group, is particularly notable for its compatibility with commercial ceramic powders. D3 will be among the AM players presenting at the upcoming trade show.

“At D3, our mission is to establish additive manufacturing as a standard for high-performance ceramics,” it says. “Our water-based Micro Particle Jetting technology combines design freedom with industrial scalability, enabling sustainable and cost-effective production of both complex and functional parts, and driving this evolution together with our partners from industry and research. By showcasing solutions from ceramic AM leaders like Lithoz, Ceram Sinto, Prodways and D3, ceramitec aims to reach deeper into markets where ceramics have often been underestimated or only adopted in limited ways, like mechanical engineering, medical, automotive, aerospace, electronics and energy.
