ACMI to install the first AMCM M 8K system in the US as part of collaboration with EOS
Deal targets defense-grade applications and faster scale-up from R&D to production and deployment of large-format metal 3D printing across U.S. industrial campuses
The American Center for Manufacturing & Innovation is partnering with EOS to expand advanced manufacturing capabilities across ACMI’s multi-tenant industrial campuses in the United States. The collaboration is positioned to support domestic production, particularly for defense and aerospace programs, by pairing ACMI’s campus model and private-public financing approach with EOS hardware, software, materials, and process expertise.
As an initial step, ACMI is acquiring multiple EOS platforms, including the newly introduced EOS M4 ONYX, an AMCM M 290-2 FLX equipped with beam-shaping technology, and the first AMCM M 8K unit. ACMI’s model brings together commercial tenants, government stakeholders, and academic partners to onshore production, with the intent to move applications from research through qualified manufacturing on the same campuses.

AMCM M 8K capabilities and target applications
Developed by AMCM, part of the EOS Group, the AMCM M 8K is a large-frame laser powder bed fusion platform with an 800 × 800 × 1,200 millimetre build volume. The machine integrates eight 1.2-kilowatt nLIGHT lasers, advanced optics, and thermal management aimed at long, uninterrupted builds. An upgraded cooling architecture and optimized process-gas flow are designed to improve consistency with demanding alloys, including copper-based materials. Target components include combustion chambers, engine injectors, and fuel tanks, where consolidated geometries, internal channels, and higher deposition power can reduce part counts and lead times.

Qualification, throughput, and scale
This latest deal further strengthens EOS’s leadership in the metal AM segment, with strong momentum in the US market. EOS and ACMI are framing the effort around “design-to-production” acceleration on shared campuses, where tenants can access AM capacity, process engineering, and training.
Key details not disclosed include delivery and installation timelines for the AMCM M 8K, expected machine utilization rates, materials and parameter sets to be qualified first, targeted certification pathways, pricing, and any federal funding mechanisms tied to campus build-outs.
