Across all AM technologies—from polymer extrusion, to metal powder bed fusion, to binder jetting—post-processing is a critical step for the production of high-quality, end-use parts. Post-processing solutions, as we’ll explore in more detail, are especially important for enabling digital additive mass production (DAMP). To date, the AM industry has perceived post-processing as something of a bottleneck to achieving serialized, industrialized AM production. The good news is that we are starting to see robust, scalable and automated solutions for finishing 3D printed parts, across powder-, filament- and resin-based technologies.Â
