# 3DMem targets global pharma market with nano 3D printed membrane filters

[South Korean startup 3DMem](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/3dmem/) has developed a [membrane filter manufacturing process](https://www.voxelmatters.com/the-state-of-bioprinting/) built on nano 3D printing technology, which it claims positions itself as a challenger to the foreign companies that dominate a market where South Korea's domestic localization rate stands at nearly zero.

Traditional membrane filter manufacturing produces pores with inconsistent diameters, depths, and spacing. These flaws compromise filtration precision and negatively impact processing times due to the resulting tortuosity of pore shapes and unnecessarily prolonged filtration.

3DMem claims that its [nano 3D printing process](https://www.voxelmatters.com/upnano-shows-2pp-nano-3d-bioprinting-capabilities-with-living-cells/) makes precise control of pore diameter possible with depth, shape, and spacing all able to be manipulated. This leads to an overall process speed efficiency increase of more than 800%, says 3DMem, with active substance loss during filtration reduced to near zero, based on the company's own research.

The potential benefits are also environmental, with a printing-based process avoiding the wastewater and chemical pollutant generation generated by conventional membrane filter production processes.

The company is in the process of a Pre-A funding round, and envisages sending sample deliveries to several top-tier global membrane filter producers this year.

“3DMem's goal is to be the first in the world to commercialize nano 3D printing technology, changing the landscape of the membrane filter market and establishing ourselves as the industry leader,” stated Kwang-jin Lee, CEO at 3DMem, Inc.

“We will continue to grow so that Korea's technology becomes the global standard and exerts a positive influence on all sectors utilizing membrane technology, such as water treatment and hydrogen.”
