Los Angeles-based metal 3D printing company 3DEO has been granted ISO 9001:2015 certification, a landmark that will enable it to accelerate the commercialization of its Intelligent Layering additive manufacturing technology. The ISO certification is the internationally recognized standard for quality management systems (QMS).

This month has been a busy and exciting one for 3DEO, a metal AM company focused squarely on production applications. Just weeks ago, the company revealed it had experienced triple-digit growth in several metrics, including 600% growth in revenues for 2019 over 2018, 172% growth in the number of employees, 566% increase in the number of production printers at 3DEO, and 394% increase in the number of parts shipped in 2019 over 2018.

Now with ISO 9001:2015 certification, the company has the means to operate more effectively, focusing more on customer requirements, ensuring consistent production and improving all aspects of its production process. Notably, the company says the certification will enable it to accelerate its goal of building “the world’s highest quality, data-driven factory of the future.”

3DEO ISO 9001:2015

“The ISO 9001 certification is a terrific milestone for 3DEO. A strong quality management system is the backbone of any world-class production line,” commented Matt Petros, CEO of 3DEO. “The ISO certification marks an important step in realizing 3DEO’s long-term vision of leveraging next-generation technologies to build the world’s highest quality, data-driven factory of the future. In the previous generation of manufacturing, spot checks and random sampling were best of class. 3DEO is building a dynamic production line with real-time streaming data that allows ongoing monitoring and end-to-end closed-loop feedback. For 3DEO, ISO is the starting point of what we expect to become the next generation of manufacturing.”

The ISO certification process at 3DEO was reportedly completed in just three months. Typically, the process can take between six to 12 months, but 3DEO was able to reduce this timeframe thanks to its built-in process control and quality production methodology. The company already had stringent systems in place to ensure that its clients in the aerospace, defense and medical industries (among others) were having their requirements met.

“We were very excited to implement ISO 9001 and achieve this world-class certification. Our starting point was a controlled process that provided us a stable base to work from,” added Marty McGough, Chief Operations Officer at 3DEO. “The certification has been very helpful in further accelerating our continuous improvement program throughout the entire organization. We’re looking forward to continuing our work in this area and excelling at our ISO and industry specific certification requirements in the coming years.”
