# 3D printing enters hotels as 358 3D printed tables are delivered to 180 apartments

Large-format 3D printing is increasingly boldly entering user industries, not only industrial ones. One of the latest examples of such an implementation is a project by [IVE LABS](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/ive-labs/) and Hyfer Objects, under which 358 tables were designed and manufactured for 180 hotel rooms in Sweden.

Production lasted 10 weeks and required very precise preparation. A key stage was calibrating the machines for a new material that the team had not previously worked with. Developing a stable, fully repeatable code and shortening the print time of individual elements proved essential.

In the production of large-format furniture, the balance of printing parameters is particularly important. A slow pace causes excessive cooling of layers and problems with their bonding, while a fast pace leads to deformation. After achieving optimal settings, it was possible to switch to continuous production mode. The printer operated in a three-shift system.

Post-processing was carried out in parallel, including drilling mounting holes for tabletops. This enabled the maintenance of production flow and avoided downtime.

The entire project was created on IVE LABS' proprietary machines. The company independently designs and builds its printers, controlling all system elements: from frames and electronics, through extruders and nozzles, to automatic material feeding. Their Scout extruder was used in the project. Having their own infrastructure ensures service independence and quick response to potential problems, which is key in serial production. The project was completed on time and without failures.

The tables were made from Sulapac FLOW 1.7 material, selected by Hyfer Objects. It is a material with an environmentally responsible composition, containing wood fibers. For the purposes of the project, it was additionally colored to a very dark shade using a dedicated color concentrate. The material is demanding in printing and requires thorough drying, but with proper preparation, it provides high surface quality and excellent workability. The satin finish and characteristic texture met the client’s expectations.

The furniture design deliberately exposes its printed nature. Layers with a height of 3 mm and a width of 10 mm create a recognizable style that is not masked. At this scale, repeatability and layer evenness were crucial, enabling a unique visual effect.

The forms were developed in accordance with additive manufacturing design principles (DFAM). The final perception is strengthened by classic finishing elements, such as wooden or laminated tabletops, which make the product function as a full-fledged piece of furniture rather than a technological curiosity.

Using one machine, 180 hotel rooms were furnished in 2.5 months. With a larger number of devices, regular production and client-specific design customization are possible.

“This project was quite a challenge,” says Filip Turzyński, CTO of IVE LABS. “It is one thing to print one or two models and another to print hundreds with a ticking clock. I will also enjoy seeing trucks full of prints leaving for Sweden.

Such projects show that 3D printing is becoming a real tool in the furniture industry. It will not replace all production methods, but it is increasingly clearly becoming one of the full-fledged options in the design and manufacturing of interior equipment.
