# 3D printed architectural marvels from 2025

As 2025 comes to a close, we are looking back at some of the incredible architectural 3D printing feats of the year, from record-breaking structures to boundary-pushing designs. Let's dive in:

## QR3D, Singapore’s first 3D printed multi-story home

[The QR3D home](https://www.voxelmatters.com/qr3d-singapores-first-3d-printed-multi-story-home-is-an-architectural-marvel/), built for the firm's founder and his family, marked the first multi-story 3D printed building in Singapore. We've included QR3D in our look back not because of the fact that it is multi-story, but because of the architectural ambition behind it. The unique house, made 90% from 3D printed concrete, integrates a number of impressive features, like layered walls and narrow ribbon windows that let light stream through. Most notable, however, is oculus, a conical void that rises from the ground floor to the top of the house, which functions as a sunlight and climate regulator.

The architecture firm said of the innovative build: “We wanted to challenge the perception of ‘high’-tech equating to cookie-cutter/modular architecture that responds purely to efficiency. Nor does it mean speculative architecture that feels experimental. We set out exploring whether a 3D printed house could: be applicable for mainstream, architecturally driven projects within urban context; achieve high-quality emotive spaces; [… and] still create a home that can remain relevant and respected in decades to come.”

## 3D printed ceramic entrance for Dubai hotel

Not all 3D printed architecture is made from concrete. As Dutch architectural design company [Studio RAP](https://www.3dprintingbusiness.directory/company/studio-rap/) has shown, it is possible to make statement architectural elements using ceramic materials. The company recently unveiled a six-meter-tall and nine-meter-long structure that forms the entrance to the Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab Hotel in Dubai made entirely from 3D printed tiles. The project, [called Blue Voyage](https://www.voxelmatters.com/studio-rap-3d-prints-six-meter-tall-ceramic-entrance-dubai-hotel/), consists of an undulating blue panels that evokes the Persian Gulf.

The ceramic entryway is made up of 900 unique ceramic tiles created using a combination of computational design, robotic 3D printing, and ceramic glazing. Studio RAP has developed its own 3D printing solution that consists of an extrusion clay printhead mounted on a Kuka robotic arm as well as in-house design algorithms. ## 30-meter-tall 3D printed Tor Alva tower

The structure, which rises up 30 meters in height, was developed through a collaboration between Nova Fundaziun Origen, ETH Zurich, and local and international partners. The structure itself functions as an immersive performance space and integrates features like a cupola theater surrounded by 32 unique 3D printed columns.

The goal of the 3D printed tower is to revitalize the town of Mulegns, once a hub for tourism and entrepreneurship and now home to just 12 residents. The project was designed by Benjamin Dillenburger and Michael Hansmeyer with the support of a team including Ana Anton, Eleni Skevaki, and Konrad Graser. The design goal was to merge the digital with the poetic and create a unique space for performers that would also draw in visitors for its record-breaking size.

## 3D printed rest areas at Osaka Expo 2025

The 2025 world expo was held in Osaka, Japan this year and showcased a variety of exhibits exploring the theme of "Designing Future Society for Our Lives". While not technically an exhibit, one of the expo's rest areas was very on theme, consisting of 3D printed structures designed by up-and-coming Japanese architecture firm Aki Hamada Architects (AHA).

The rest area in question integrated large-scale 3D printed elements inspired by the form of canyons. Among the 3D printed structures were wall panels, planters, hand-wash basins, and seating all made from a soil-based material and a WASP construction 3D printer. “Though heavy, fragile and far removed from modern industrial materials, soil has the advantage of being able to return to the ground,” AHA said. “By using it as a new construction material, we aimed to propose a vision for future architecture and society—one where people build their own nests using soil from their local land.” Some of the printed structures were constructed in situ, while others were printed off-site and transported in.
