With just under a month left of 2019, the 3D Pioneers Challenge is kicking off its fifth edition for the upcoming year. As of today, the 3D printing design competition is accepting submissions for its 2020 edition, welcoming entries from universities and research institutes as well as from industry, design and engineering firms. As usual, the 3D Pioneers Challenge aims to push the boundaries of additive manufacturing and its applications.
The 3D Pioneers Challenge 2020 will highlight the most innovative project submissions from various verticals, including Design, MedTech, FashionTech, Material, Architecture, Digital, Mobility, Sustainability and Electronics. Interested participants must submit their projects by March 1, 2020 to be eligible to win.
The challenge will culminate in May at Rapid.Tech 3D, where the winning projects will be announced and prizes will be awarded. This year, there is €35,000 to be won—donated by the Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society Thuringia—as well as other prizes. The best student project, for instance, will be awarded a Makerbot Replicator+ 3D printer. Other prizes include Autodesk software licences for Fusion 360 and NetFabb, the 3D Printing Handbook from 3DHubs and more.
“It’s fascinating how the 3DPC’s network is drawing circles already,” said Simone and Christoph Völker, the organizers of the 3D Pioneers Challenge. “Partners as well as the expert jury belong to the who’s who of the industry and the attention rises: all eyes are now focused on this competition when it comes to AM. Every year we are motivated by the fact that the annual selection of the finalists presents the best concepts and ideas of the inspiring AM industry and also of the young university scene. Especially with the portentous year 2020, the focus is even more towards Advanced Manufacturing—to show the future already today at the exhibition.”
The expert jury does indeed comprise some notable names from the industry. For instance, the design and architecture verticals will be judged by Nervous System’s Jessica Rosenkrantz, Patrik Schumacher from Zaha Hadid Architects and designer Ross Lovegrove. Other judges include Marco Korman from Adidas, Arno Held from AM Ventures, Stephanie Brickwede from Deutsche Bahn and many more.
