The new 2022 Ford Maverick supports DIY 3D printable FITS accessories

Stay up to date with everything that is happening in the wonderful world of AM via our LinkedIn community.

The new 2022 Ford Maverick will feature never-before-seen customization options leveraging 3D printing, supported by the new Ford Integrated Tether System (FITS), available standard.

The FITS slots are receivers into which a matching mount slides in from the top and seats in place to house accessories. There are eight Ford Integrated Tether System slots throughout the vehicle, one at the back of the center console and seven in the under-seat storage bins.

Available Cord Wrap: This cord wrap is one of the five FITS (Ford Integrated Tether System) slot accessories available for purchase. This available accessory package includes cupholders, a storage or trash bin, a cord organizer, a double hook for grocery bags and purses and under-seat storage dividers. *

Using the slot geometry that will be published by Ford through the Maverick’s QR code sticker in the FLEXBED, people will be able to 3D print any accessory they can dream up with their home printer for endless personalization.

With 3D printed accessories, imagination is the limit. Kids love fries? A 3D printed fry holder for the back seat can be printed for easy snacking. Sick of sharing an iPad to watch a movie during a long trip? Print a tablet holder so both rear-seat passengers can enjoy hands-free streaming. Want a safe place for passengers to stash their shades? Print a sunglasses case to stick in the back of the center console.

For anyone who is not (yet) into 3D printing but wants to get in on the personalization and organization these slots provide, there is an available accessory package that includes cupholders, a storage or trash bin, cord organizer, double hook for grocery bags and purses and under-seat storage dividers. The five available accessories will be available when the vehicle goes on sale this fall. The slot geometry will be accessible through the FLEXBED QR code located in the truck bed that Maverick owners will use to access “How-To”  information for FLEXBED, electrical DIY and Ford Integrated Tether System slots.
